Education includes advanced training in school neuropsychology resulting in a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology, Doctorate in Philosophy in Educational Psychology, Multi-Disciplinary Master of Science Degree in Counseling, Special Education, and Psychology, Master of Science Degree in Applied Psychology, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Dr. Akin holds a license in Texas as a School Psychologist and is a board certified School Neuropsychologist. She has 11 years of experience teaching at the university and junior college level and taught courses in psychology, education, special education, in-person and virtually. She also taught courses for the Police Academy at Eastfield Community College. Dr. Akin has worked in school districts from 1A to 5A as well as internationally in the Cayman Islands where she was an Educational Psychologist and Lead Psychologist for the Department of Education. Her experience includes early childhood testing, K-12, and Transition to Adulthood.

Dr. Akin has also presented locally and internationally at the Texas State Conference on Autism, Southwestern Psychological Association, Cayman Early Childhood Association, and multiple times at the Learning Disabilities Worldwide Conference. She is committed to being a lifelong learner expanding her expertise in evaluation, education, and social-emotional needs including trauma.

A seasoned educator and visionary leader currently working as an educational diagnostician in public schools. Dr. Bright is an accomplished and highly passionate educator with 30 years of experience as an educational aide, special education teacher, general education teacher, montessori teacher, elementary counselor, high school counselor, supervisor of special education, educational diagnostician, director of special education, assistant principal, elementary principal, coordinator of early childhood, curriculum specialist and Assistant Superintendent for six years. In addition, she has experience as an Adjunct Professor at University of Southwest-Hobbs, New Mexico, University of Texas/RioGrande Valley-Brownsville, Texas and Texas A&M University- Commerce, Texas and taught classes in leadership, research, special education, and principalship. She has extensive background in school law, school policy, special education programming, curriculum, and instruction (PreK-12). Dr. Bright has presented at state and national conferences on special education issues, curriculum, leadership and motivational topics.

Dr. Bright received her doctorate in Educational Administration from Baylor University. Her certifications include: Superintendent, Mid-Management, Counseling in Special Education & General Education, Educational Diagnostician, Special Education Teacher K-12, General Education K-5, and various specializations in special education.  Dr. Bright has made a commitment to learn new concepts every day, maintain positive relationships, and to be an advocate for special education students.

Education includes a Doctorate in Business Organization and Management, an Education Administration Mid- Management Certification obtained from University of Texas at El Paso. In 2008, she obtained her Master of Arts in Organizational Management and a second Master’s degree in Education in the area of TESOL, from Eastern New Mexico University. Her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, minor in English and American Literature from the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Luna holds Texas and New Mexico Educator certifications in the following areas; Bilingual- Spanish 1-8, ESL-1-8, Principal EC-12 and Educational Diagnostician. In addition, she also possesses an Associate of Applied Science degree in General Business from El Paso Community College.

Dr. Luna taught in the public schools for 10 years. She taught bilingual classes at the Kindergarten and 4th grade level.  She also taught 7th and 8th grade ESL classes.  After her teaching experience, she became an Assistant Principal for three years and during that time her campus was rated Recognized and was Exemplary the following year. Most recently, starting in 2013, Dr. Luna served as a Principal for a charter high school for two years and served as a Principal for a K-8th grade public charter school. Currently, she is a Bilingual Educational Diagnostician in the DFW area.

Dr. Luna’s academic experience includes instruction of university courses for the School of Business and Technology at the Undergraduate, Graduate, Online and Campus programs for 12 years in Texas and New Mexico and most recently in Upstate New York.  She served as an Assistant Director for a local business college in El Paso, Texas. In 2007 she served in the capacity of Associate Dean at the University level and Program Director for a Graduate Program at the college level.  Most recently she served as a bilingual faculty and collaborated in the design of ESL and Spanish courses at the undergraduate college level.

Besides her teaching experience she has more than 15 years of management experience, in healthcare and property management. Dr. Luna owned a couple of businesses in her home town of El Paso and served on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries as Vice President and currently serves on the Board of Directors for a property management company. Dr. Luna has presented in national conferences and her publications are in the areas of Leadership and Education.

ABC GROUP OF TEXAS OVERVIEW

The assessment will be conducted by qualified staff, and when appropriate, interpreters of the individual’s primary language may be used. Tests conducted pursuant to these assessments may include, but are not limited to classroom observations, rating scales, one-on-one testing or other types or combinations of tests. No single procedure may be used as the sole criterion for determining an appropriate educational program. A signed electronic report will be submitted detailing the findings. ABC Group of Texas evaluators may present their findings in the IEP meeting, if requested. The results of this assessment may be a recommendation for special education services or maintenance or change of the current special education service(s) and provisions. All information and assessment results are confidential.
